Ep 1. The Resurrection

Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero who, years ago, gave up his mantle of Black Lightning in order to focus on his family and pursuing a career as a high school principal, finds himself drawn back into the world of vigilantism when a dangerous gang called The 100 threatens his daughter's safety.

As the season 1 premiere, "The Resurrection," opens, we see a montage of news reports detailing the rise of gang violence in the city of Freeland, and the growing influence of The 100, a powerful gang that seems to control everything from drugs to prostitution to politics.

We then meet Jefferson Pierce, who is introduced as the beloved principal of Garfield High School, where he is respected for his dedication to his students and his unwavering commitment to social justice. We quickly learn that he is also a devoted father to two daughters, one of whom, Anissa, is a medical student who is also passionate about activism and social justice, while the other, Jennifer, is a high school student who is struggling with the pressures of growing up in a dangerous and chaotic city.

As the episode progresses, we see that Jefferson is haunted by his past as Black Lightning, and by the toll that his superheroic activities took on his personal life. He is reluctant to again take up the mantle of Black Lightning, fearing that it will put his family in danger and distract him from his responsibilities as a father and a principal.

However, when The 100 kidnaps Jennifer and threatens to kill her unless Jefferson helps them with a criminal scheme, he realizes that he cannot simply stand by and let his family be terrorized by the gang. With the help of his old friend and mentor, Peter Gambi, Jefferson dons his Black Lightning costume once more and sets out to rescue his daughter and confront The 100.
