During the second season of Bomb Girls, episode three titled "The Enemy Within" centers on the daily struggles faced by the women working at Victory Munitions, a Canadian bomb factory during World War II. The episode begins with an emergency announcement from the government that all Japanese citizens are being relocated to internment camps to avoid possible sabotage and espionage from their community members who may be working with the Axis powers.

At Victory Munitions, many of the employees are shaken by this announcement. Betty, the plant's matron, feels particularly affected because her best friend, Theresa, is a Japanese-Canadian. Betty feels conflicted because she does not believe Theresa is capable of being a spy but understands the government's urgency and is torn between her loyalty to her friend and her country.

Meanwhile, Gladys, one of the factory's floor workers, struggles to juggle her work and personal life. She has recently been promoted to supervisor but is facing backlash from her male colleagues who believe that she only received the promotion because of her connections to the factory's owner. Additionally, Gladys's boyfriend, James, is deployed overseas, and she is worried about his safety.

Elsewhere in the factory, Lorna, the mother of two daughters, begins to face the consequences of her decisions. She has been taking diet pills to help her keep up with the demanding work at the plant and has now developed a dependency on them. Lorna's behavior becomes erratic, and her family becomes increasingly worried about her well-being.

As tensions begin to mount within the factory, bomb threats also arise. The employees are faced with the possibility that there may be a spy within their ranks who is trying to sabotage the factory's production. The women band together to try and find the culprit, but this only further increases the sense of paranoia and distrust that is already present within the factory.

"The Enemy Within" is a tense and emotional episode that highlights the struggles faced by women during World War II. The episode deals with themes of loyalty, patriotism, and the effects of war on civilians. The characters are well-developed and nuanced, and the writing is sharp and poignant. The episode is a reminder of the courage and perseverance displayed by these women during a difficult and challenging time in history.
