People have always been fascinated with the Kennedy family. This fascination brought about the creation of a mini-series centered on the family. The show stars Greg Kinnear as President John Kennedy, Katie Holmes as Jacqueline Kennedy, Barry Pepper as Robert F. Kennedy and Tom Wilkinson as the patriarch of the family, Joseph P. Kennedy Sr. The mini-series has eight episodes. After the premier, there were many negative reviews about it. Some channels even refused to show the series. It is said that the Kennedys campaigned to keep the series from airing. The only channel that would originally air the series was ReelzChannel. They acquired the rights to air it by paying $7 million for the series and $10 million for advertising. The series closely follows the Kennedy family, focusing not only on their personal lives but also on their political careers. It opens with Joseph Kennedy Sr. opposing President Roosevelt on going to war, a war that Jack not only serves in but also one in which his older brother Joe Jr. dies in. It also centers on Jack as he gets married to Jackie, has children, has an affair with Marilyn Monroe, and is elected president. It also shows what happens when he is assassinated during a parade in Texas, how the vice-president has to step in and assume the presidency, and how the family feel as they lay the president to rest. The series also shows how Jack dealt with the threat of nuclear war. The series ends with Bobby Kennedy, as he is assassinated on the eve that he wins the California primary during his run for president. It is a very emotional series, as it closely shows the ups and downs of the Kennedy family, from tragedy to triumph and once again to tragedy.
