In the season 2 premiere of Building Alaska titled "The Race Is On," viewers are introduced to three new teams of builders who are each striving to construct their dream homes in the majestic Alaskan wilderness. With a limited building season before the harsh winter temperatures set in, the pressure is on to complete the projects before it's too late.
The first team featured is made up of a family of four who have a deadline of 5 months to build a multi-generational home that will be both the family's new residence and a guesthouse for visitors. They've chosen an idyllic location surrounded by water, but reaching the site proves to be a challenge due to the rugged terrain. The family has to quickly learn to live off the grid as they start building their dream home using only the resources available in the wild.
The second team consists of a couple who wants to build their dream cabin in the Alaskan wilderness. They have chosen a location that is only accessible by boat, so they must first navigate the river to reach their site. Building a sustainable home using local materials becomes the major focus and they must be able to adapt to the changing environmental conditions as they work on their project. Having experience in woodworking, this couple hopes to create a warm cabin that meets their wilderness aspirations.
Finally, the third team is made up of a father-son duo who wants to build their own hunting cabin. The two have chosen a remote location which can only be accessed through a narrow off-road path. As they embark on their construction project with a limited timeline, it becomes quickly clear that they need to work hard and fast to put shelter over their heads before winter hits.
Throughout this episode, the teams face various challenges, including dealing with the unpredictable weather conditions, navigating the harsh wilderness terrain, and adapting to the limited availability of resources. They also meet some unexpected obstacles along the way, including some very curious local wildlife. Despite the setbacks they encounter, they all leave viewers impressed with their resilience and resourcefulness.
"The Race Is On" kicks off the second season of Building Alaska with an exciting start, and promises even more adventure and drama in forthcoming episodes. From coping with life off the grid to figuring out how to obtain materials in the middle of nowhere, the new season will showcase the limits of human ingenuity in the Alaskan wilderness.
