Ep 2. Going to Town

In the second episode of the HBO series Camping, entitled “Going to Town,” we continue to follow the group of friends as they navigate their weekend camping trip. This time, it's decided that everyone will venture into town together for some much-needed respite from the great outdoors.

The episode opens with Kathryn (played by Jennifer Garner) and Walt (David Tennant) arguing over their morning routine. Kathryn, who is portrayed as a control freak, is desperate to make sure everyone sticks to the itinerary and is ready for the day's activities. Meanwhile, Walt just wants to take his time and enjoy his coffee. This dynamic sets up the central conflict of the episode, as Kathryn attempts to herd the group together and make sure everyone is on schedule.

Once they arrive in town, the group splits up to do various activities. Kathryn and Walt head to a local spa to get massages, with Kathryn hoping to convince Walt to try Botox to help with his wrinkles. Elsewhere, Jandice (played by Juliette Lewis) and Nina-Joy (Janicza Bravo) end up at a marijuana dispensary, where Jandice convinces Nina-Joy to try an edible.

As the day goes on, tensions start to rise between the group. Kathryn's overbearing nature starts to grate on everyone, particularly Walt, who is tired of being bossed around. Meanwhile, Jandice's newfound love for edibles starts to cause problems, as she becomes increasingly erratic and difficult to be around.

The episode culminates in a disastrous dinner, where tensions between the group finally boil over. Kathryn, who has been drinking heavily throughout the day, starts to lash out at everyone. Walt finally snaps and tells her to back off, which leads to a full-blown argument. The rest of the group tries to intervene, but it's clear that things have reached a breaking point.

Overall, “Going to Town” is a funny and engaging episode that does a great job of exploring the personalities and dynamics of the show's characters. While the camping trip itself is the show's central conceit, it's the interactions between the characters that really make the series worth watching. This episode in particular sets up some fun conflicts that will no doubt play out over the course of the rest of the season.
