In episode 5 of Chicago Typewriter, the past and present storyline continue to unravel. We are taken back to the time when Han Se Joo was living a peaceful life with his mother. We see his childhood friend, Yeon Jin, and notice how much they both care for each other. Han Se Joo’s mother is a famous shaman and in this episode, we get to see her at work for the first time. She successfully performs a ritual to banish evil spirits, which is an eerie scene.

The present-day storyline, on the other hand, focuses more on the relationship between Jeon Seol and Se Joo. Seol is taken aback by the fact that Se Joo has a twin brother, as she did not know this before. Meanwhile, Se Joo continues to experience writer’s block and seems to be struggling to write his next book. He gets help from Seol, who suggests that they go to an old bookshop, where she uses her knowledge of books to help him find inspiration.

The highlight of the episode is when Se Joo and Seol get trapped in the bookshop due to a heavy rainstorm. They spend the night there and we see their relationship develop further. The way Seol takes care of Se Joo while they are stuck there is heartwarming to watch. The two of them share a moment of vulnerability when Se Joo opens up about his fear of being unable to write.

Aside from the romance storyline, we also see more of Yoo Jin Oh’s past. In this episode, he is shown to have been involved with a group of freedom fighters, and we get to see his backstory more closely. Through this, we also get to learn more about the character’s personality and motives.

The episode ends with Seol finding a typewriter in the bookshop and giving it to Se Joo as a gift. This seems to be the push that Se Joo needs as we see him inspired and finally writing again. The episode ends on a romantic note, with Se Joo revealing his true feelings to Seol and asking her out on a date.

Overall, this episode is packed with character development and we get to see more of the backstory for several characters. The love story between Se Joo and Seol continues to unfold in a realistic and relatable way, which will keep the viewers engaged.
