Ep 1. Shook

In the opening episode of Claws season 2, things pick up right where they left off in the thrilling season 1 finale. The episode titled "Shook" begins with Desna (Niecy Nash) and her crew attempting to adjust to their new lives as bosses of the new money laundering scheme they have established. While the ladies are busy trying to keep up the outward appearance of a legitimate business, they are also battling their inner demons, especially after the traumatic events they faced in the last season.

As the episode progresses, we see that things are not all sunshine and rainbows for Desna and her gang. Desna is struggling to keep her boyfriend Dean (Harold Perrineau) out of trouble since he has taken to selling drugs on the side. Meanwhile, Polly (Carrie Preston) is still haunted by her past and her relationship with her adopted brother and former accomplice. Quiet Ann (Judy Reyes) has her own problems to deal with as she tries to juggle her job at the salon and her new girlfriend Arlene (Suleka Mathew).

Also, there is Roller (Jack Kesy), who is still not over the fact that Uncle Daddy (Dean Norris) tried to kill him, and Bryce (Kevin Rankin), who is still dealing with the aftermath of his attempted murder charge. Adding to this already complicated mix is the arrival of a new player in town, Zlata (Franka Potente), a notorious Eastern European woman with a dark past and a flair for the dramatic.

As the episode progresses, we see Zlata making her presence known by visiting and intimidating Uncle Daddy, and making an offer to Desna and her friends. However, Desna is torn about whether or not to accept Zlata's proposition since it could put them all at risk.

Overall, "Shook" is a solid entry for the second season of Claws. The show has always been good at juggling multiple storylines, and this episode proves no different. Fans of the show will not be disappointed as they witness the return of their favorite characters dealing with new problems and meeting new people. There is plenty of drama, suspense, and humor to go around in this opening episode, which sets the stage for an exciting season.
