President Tom Kirkland is still struggling with the aftermath of the Capitol Hill bombing, which killed the former President, Vice President, and the majority of Congress. He is also coming to grips with the realization that he has become the designated survivor, thrust into the role of President of the United States without any preparation. His former position as Secretary of Housing and Urban Development has not prepared him for the immense responsibility of leading a nation in crisis.

As he deals with the day-to-day duties of his new job, Kirkman is also faced with a major controversy when a controversial governor refuses to allow Syrian refugees to settle in his state. Kirkman is torn between his own beliefs of inclusivity and the need to preserve the safety of American citizens in the wake of a devastating attack.

Meanwhile, FBI Agent Hannah Wells continues to investigate the bombing. In the previous episode, she discovered a mysterious Arabic phrase scrawled on the wall of the Capitol building, which she believes may be a clue to finding the mastermind behind the attack. In "The Confession," Hannah makes a surprising discovery that could lead her even closer to the truth.

The episode also introduces a new character, Peter MacLeish, a decorated war hero who miraculously survived the bombing. MacLeish quickly becomes a key figure in Kirkman's administration, but his presence raises a number of questions and suspicions.

As the episode unfolds, Kirkman is faced with a crisis of conscience when a man confesses to being the mastermind behind the bombing. The man, who is being held in custody, claims that he acted alone and that he was motivated by his anger at the government's policies towards Syria. Kirkman must decide whether to take the man at his word and close the case, or continue to search for other potential suspects.

"The Confession" is a tense and dramatic episode that explores the complicated nature of justice and the burden of leadership. As Kirkman struggles to maintain order and move forward in the aftermath of the attack, he is faced with a number of difficult choices and moral dilemmas. Meanwhile, Hannah's investigation continues to add new layers of complexity and intrigue to the overall narrative.

Overall, Designated Survivor is a compelling and addictive political thriller that keeps viewers on the edge of their seats with its fast-paced storytelling and well-drawn characters. Whether you're a fan of the show or just looking for a thrilling new drama to sink your teeth into, "The Confession" is definitely an episode worth checking out.
