- 5 Seasons
In this spy drama series, a team of high-tech experts work to stop high-tech threats to national security. Each member of the team as an area of expertise, including psychology, engineering and coding, and they must bring their skills together to solve difficult cases. The series follows the basic formula of other crime procedural series such as NCIS and CSI. In this formula, a team of diverse, quirky professional investigators must work together to solve crimes. In most versions of the formula, only one or two of the team members is a tech expert. In this series, however, tech plays a central role, and the team members occupy different tech-centered roles. The series was supposedly based on the real-life exploits of Walter O'Brien, the founder of a tech companies that claimed to aid in the busting of criminals, cyber and otherwise, around the world. The claims of O'Brien about himself and his company, however, have been widely disputed. Some of claimed that CBS has promoted bogus claims about O'Brien's past as a way to market the series. Scorpion debuted on CBS in 2014 to mixed to negative reviews from critics. It has received a somewhat better reaction from audiences. Ratings were decent for the series' first season, however, thanks largely to a lead in from The Big Bang Theory. Ratings declined in subsequent seasons when the series was moved to a different time slot, though, and the series was cancelled after a fourth season in 2017.
