Doctor Thorne is a British historical drama series produced by Amazon Studios and based on the novel of the same name by Anthony Trollope. Set in 1850s England, the show follows the story of Mary Thorne (Stefanie Martini), the illegitimate niece of the eponymous Dr. Thorne (Tom Hollander), a kind-hearted and well-respected physician in the village of Greshamsbury.

Mary's father was Dr. Thorne's late brother, and her mother, a French opera singer, died shortly after giving birth to her. Despite her illegitimate birth, Mary is a bright and charming young woman who is well-liked by everyone in town, except for Lady Arabella de Courcy (Rebecca Front), the snobbish matriarch of the local aristocratic family. Lady Arabella is determined to marry her son Frank (Harry Richardson) to Mary's wealthy cousin, Miss Dunstable (Alison Brie), in order to restore the family's financial fortunes.

However, Frank is already in love with Mary, and as their relationship deepens, they find themselves facing a series of obstacles, including Lady Arabella's scheming, Frank's reckless spending, and his father's disapproval. Meanwhile, Dr. Thorne must also confront his own demons and reconcile his duty to his family with his loyalty to his patients and his principles.

The show is a beautifully crafted period piece, with lush cinematography, lavish production design, and exquisite costumes that evoke the elegance and refinement of Victorian England. The performances are uniformly excellent, with Tom Hollander delivering a masterful performance as the title character, balancing his affection for Mary with his sense of duty and his own painful past.

Stefanie Martini is equally impressive as Mary, imbuing her character with a quiet strength and resilience that make her a captivating protagonist. Harry Richardson as Frank also shines, capturing the impetuousness and vulnerability of a young man torn between his love for Mary and his loyalty to his family.

The supporting cast is equally strong, with Rebecca Front delivering a deliciously wicked performance as Lady Arabella, and Alison Brie providing a welcome dose of humor and wit as Miss Dunstable, the American heiress whose presence throws a wrench in Lady Arabella's plans.

Overall, Doctor Thorne is a delightful and engaging drama that combines romance, intrigue, and social commentary in a satisfying and entertaining package. It is a must-see for fans of costume dramas and period pieces, and a worthy adaptation of one of Anthony Trollope's most beloved novels.
