Ep 5. Season 4, Episode 5

It’s 1922, and Downton Abbey is in the midst of big changes. Lady Mary’s suitors have been whittled down to two: Lord Gillingham, and Charles Blake. Lord Gillingham is insistent that Lady Mary make a decision, but she’s reluctant to do so—she’s not sure if she’s ready to commit to anyone. Meanwhile, a bazaar is coming up, and the Crawleys are determined to make it a success.

As preparations for the bazaar get underway, tensions are high. Lady Mary is feeling the pressure of having to choose between Lord Gillingham and Charles Blake, while Edith is still grappling with the fact that she’s pregnant and still hasn't told anyone about it. However, things start to look up for Edith when she strikes up a friendship with a local farmer, Mr. Drewe, who offers to help her out.

Downstairs, Mrs. Hughes has a health scare, and Mrs. Patmore is feeling insecure about her cooking abilities. But the biggest drama is reserved for the guest of honor at the bazaar—the Prince of Wales. Everyone is on their best behavior, but tensions are high when Carson discovers that an old flame of his, Alice, is now working in the kitchens. Carson is forced to confront his feelings for Alice and make a decision about whether or not to act on them.

As the bazaar gets underway, we see everyone coming together to make it a success. But when the Prince of Wales arrives, things start to go awry. Mrs. Patmore’s cooking skills are put to the test, and a misunderstanding threatens to derail the entire event.

However, the biggest shock of the night comes when a visitor from Lady Mary’s past arrives. The unexpected guest throws Lady Mary off balance, and she starts to question what she truly wants in life. As the night wears on, Lady Mary has to make a decision about her future—will she choose Lord Gillingham, Charles Blake, or strike out on her own?

Overall, Season 4, Episode 5 of Downton Abbey is a drama-filled affair. With tension both upstairs and downstairs, each character is pushed to their limit. But despite the challenges they face, they come together to create a successful event and deal with the unexpected surprises that come their way.
