In the season 5 finale of Drunk History, entitled "Animals," the show explores the fascinating and often hilarious stories of historical animal encounters. As always, the episode features three inebriated storytellers who share their slurred versions of events, which are then acted out by famous actors in comedic reenactments.

The first story focuses on French balloonist Sophie Blanchard, who in the early 19th century became famous for her daring aerial stunts. In this episode, we see Blanchard taking flight with her beloved pet monkey, Gomard, strapped to her waist. As she performs acrobatic moves and sets off fireworks from the balloon, Gomard becomes increasingly agitated and eventually escapes into the sky. The reenactment of Gomard's wild and potentially deadly airborne adventure is both comical and awe-inspiring.

The second segment centers around President James Buchanan's pet elephant, who was gifted to him by the King of Siam in 1856. The drunken storyteller shares the bizarre and ultimately tragic story of the elephant, who was named "Lalla Rookh" and lived on the White House lawn. Despite Buchanan's fondness for Lalla Rookh, the elephant was neglected and eventually died of starvation, leading to a macabre ending that is hilariously acted out by the show's cast.

The final story of the episode revolves around the famous "Battle of the Overpass," which took place in 1937 when striking auto workers clashed with Ford Motor Company goons on a bridge outside the company's factory. The drunk storyteller shares the little-known fact that amidst the chaos of the battle, a group of activists snuck into the factory and freed a group of white rabbits that were being used for experiments. The reenactment of the rabbit rescue, complete with six-foot-tall rabbit costumes, is both ridiculous and heartwarming.

Throughout the episode, viewers are treated to hilarious commentary from host Derek Waters, who drinks along with the storytellers and adds his own comedic twist to the tales. The show's signature blend of drunken storytelling and historical reenactments shines in this animal-themed episode, making for a memorable finale to a wildly entertaining season.
