Emily Owens, M.D. is a medical drama TV series which revolves around Emily Owens, a young medical intern from the Midwest, who enters into a prestigious Denver hospital. Season 1 episode 1, named "Pilot", starts with Emily's arrival at Denver Memorial Hospital. She is excited to be a part of the program and hopes to make a good impression. However, it turns out to be more challenging than she had anticipated.

The episode starts with Emily arriving at the hospital, where she bumps into her high school crush, Will Collins, who is now a resident doctor at the same hospital. Emily tries to hide her feelings for him, but it becomes clear that the spark between them is still there. She also meets Tyra Dupre, another intern who seems confident and sharp, and seems to know her way around the hospital.

Emily quickly learns that hospital life is not what she had imagined as an intern. She meets her supervisor, Dr. Gina Bandari, who is a no-nonsense doctor with high expectations and little patience for mistakes. Emily is assigned to work with another intern who is very competitive and often condescending towards her. At the same time, Emily also has to navigate her way through the hospital's complicated hierarchy and politics, which involves working with different departments and doctors, each with their own agendas and personalities.

As Emily begins her first day, she encounters various medical cases, including a man who needs an emergency tracheotomy, a patient who needs a heart transplant, and a woman who has unknowingly given a deadly dose of medication. She quickly learns that working in a hospital is a high-pressure environment, and every decision can make a difference between life and death.

The episode also focuses on Emily's personal life, including her difficult relationship with her mother, who is a proud surgeon at another hospital, and her struggle to fit in socially with her fellow interns. Emily faces a challenge with a group of mean girls, who she had known in high school, who still treat her as an outcast. She tries to befriend them and earn their approval, but ultimately realizes that she cannot change who she is to fit in.

Despite all the challenges, Emily refuses to quit. She is determined to become a great doctor and learn from her mistakes. She realizes that to succeed, she must trust her own instincts and stay true to herself. In the end, Emily has a small victory when she helps save a patient's life.

Overall, the pilot episode of Emily Owens, M.D. sets up the premise of the show and introduces us to the world of medicine and the complex life of a young intern. It also establishes the central characters and their interpersonal relationships, including Emily's complicated relationship with Will and her ongoing feud with the mean girls.
