During the 14th season of the popular medical drama ER, viewers were treated to a dramatic and intense episode titled "Blackout." The episode, which was the seventh of the season, aired on November 15, 2007, and was directed by Skipp Sudduth. It featured a number of the show's regular cast members, including Goran Visnjic as Dr. Luka Kovac, Linda Cardellini as Nurse Samantha Taggart, and Parminder Nagra as Dr. Neela Rasgotra.

"Blackout" is a fast-paced, adrenaline-filled episode that centers around the sudden loss of power at County General Hospital. As the hospital is plunged into darkness, the staff is forced to adapt quickly to the chaotic new environment. Patients are left in the dark, confused and frightened, while doctors struggle to continue providing critical care without the aid of modern technology.

As the episode opens, we are introduced to a number of the hospital's patients. There's a young girl with a brain tumor who is scheduled for surgery; an elderly man with chest pains; and a woman in premature labor. But as the power outage hits, chaos ensues. Samantha is trapped in an elevator with a patient, while Neela and her fellow doctors struggle to keep their patients alive in the dark.

With their normal means of communication cut off, the staff is forced to rely on instinct and improvisation. They use flashlights and candles to navigate the darkened halls, and come up with creative solutions to continue treating their patients. But as time wears on, tempers start to flare and tensions run high.

As the episode progresses, we learn more about the personal struggles of some of the characters. Samantha, dealing with the stress of being a single mother, is forced to face her own mortality when she is trapped in the elevator. Neela, still grieving the loss of her husband, is struggling with depression and is forced to confront her own mental health issues as she tries to help her patients.

Despite the challenges they face, the staff refuse to give up. They work tirelessly, using every resource at their disposal to keep their patients alive and safe. As dawn breaks and the power comes back on, they breathe a collective sigh of relief – but the aftermath of the blackout will continue to affect them in ways they never could have imagined.

"Blackout" is a powerful episode that explores the limits of human resilience in the face of adversity. It's a testament to the strength and bravery of the medical professionals who work tirelessly to keep us healthy and safe, even in the darkest of times. With its heart-pumping action, complex characters, and thoughtful exploration of important issues, it's no wonder that ER remained a fan favorite for 15 seasons.
