Erin is just ten years old, but she has developed a remarkable ability to commune with beasts of any kind. This stems from her inherent love of all creatures, as well as the fact that she has grown up around animals. Her mother is one of the Mist People, who are said to have amazing mystical powers. When she is still young, Erin's mother is killed, so she goes to live with a beekeeper who further instructs her in the ways of nature, preparing her for her surprising role as a key player in bringing resolution to a civil war.
