ESPN, or the Entertainment and Sports Programming Network, is an American cable sports news channel that was founded in 1978. It's current mission is to broadcast news covering all professional level American sports leagues. It does focus on the four major sports of American football, basketball, baseball and hockey as the majority of American fans follow those leagues. It has recently expanded programming to cover other, lesser known sports.

Aside from in-depth interviews and general coverage the channel's trademark broadcast is its nightly Sportscenter news show. Becoming a feature on the show is so cemented in American sports that players and broadcatsers routinely call exceptional plays "Sportscenter" worthy. The channel also produces its own yearly awards show that celebrates amazing sports plays, teams and general pop culture.
