Faerie Tale Theatre is a children's series that was inspired by the Shirley Temple show, Shirley Temple's Storybook. Shelley Duvall came up with Faerie Tale Theatre's concept while she was filming Popeye and reading the fairy tale, The Frog Prince. Faerie Tale Theatre retells popular fairy tales. Shelly Duvall narrated, hosted, and sometimes starred in different episodes of the series. She was also the executive producer of the show. Each episode began with Shelly Duvall introducing herself. She then welcomed viewers and gave a short outline of the story being featured during that particular episode. Well known actors and directors were featured in various installments, Robin Williams starred in the pilot episode The Frog Prince, and the back drops used were influenced by different artists and children's book illustrators.
