Design Debates is the tenth and final episode of the fourth season of the popular home renovation show, First Time Flippers. In this episode, viewers follow two novice house flippers, who have just purchased their first property in need of some serious TLC.
Throughout the season, viewers have watched as the couple struggled to make decisions on everything from paint colors to flooring types. But now, with just a few weeks left until they hope to have the house ready to sell, tensions are starting to run high as they try to finalize their design choices.
The episode opens with the couple meeting with their contractor to go over some of the latest updates to the property. The contractor reminds them that they have to make a decision soon about the kitchen cabinets and countertops, as the order needs to be placed within the next few days if they hope to have them installed on time.
The couple, however, can't seem to agree on what they want. He wants dark cabinets and granite countertops, she's leaning more towards white cabinets and quartz. The contractor tries to mediate the discussion, but it quickly becomes clear that the couple has some underlying communication issues that are making it difficult for them to come to a decision.
We then see the couple heading to a local home improvement store to check out some samples. But even with the physical samples in front of them, they still can't agree. Each of them is set in their own opinion, and they're both starting to get frustrated with the other.
After a long day of bickering, the couple heads back to the house feeling defeated. They're worried that their inability to agree on design choices is going to cost them both time and money in the long run.
Feeling discouraged, they sit down with their realtor to discuss their options. The realtor offers some advice on how to appeal to potential buyers in the area, and suggests that they take a step back and look at the big picture.
With the realtor's advice in mind, the couple decides to take a break from making decisions on their own and seek out professional help. They hire a local interior designer to come to the property and give them some suggestions on how to move forward.
The designer is able to see their vision and offers some fresh ideas that neither of them had thought of before. She also helps them to come to a compromise on some of their more contentious design debates. With the designer's guidance, the couple is able to make some progress on their renovations and have a clearer idea of what they want the final product to look like.
As the episode nears its end, viewers see the final transformation of the property. The house is nearly unrecognizable from when the couple bought it just a few short months ago. It's now a modern, stylish space that any potential home buyer would be proud to call their own.
In the closing moments of the episode, the couple reflects on their experience as first-time flippers. They acknowledge that it wasn't always easy, but they feel proud of what they accomplished and are now eager to take on their next renovation project with the knowledge and experience they gained from this one.
