Free Agents is a British television sitcom that aired on Channel 4 from 2009 to 2010. The show stars Anthony Stewart Head as Stephen, Sharon Horgan as Helen, and Stephen Mangan as Alex. The series centres around the lives of Stephen and Alex, who work at a talent agency, and their struggles with love, work, and friendship.

Stephen is a charismatic and successful talent agent, who prides himself on being able to close any deal. However, his personal life is a mess as he struggles to move on from the death of his wife, while also trying to navigate the world of dating. Alex, on the other hand, is a neurotic and insecure agent, who is constantly worried about his job and his love life. He is also in the midst of a messy divorce, which only adds to his anxiety.

Helen is a PR consultant, who is hired to work with the talent agency. She is currently going through a break-up, and her personal problems often spill over into her work life. Despite this, Helen is a tough and determined woman, who is not afraid to speak her mind and take charge of a situation.

The show follows the lives of these three characters, as they deal with their personal and professional struggles. Along the way, they meet a colourful cast of characters, including clients, ex-lovers, and family members, who add to the drama and comedy of the series.

The writing of Free Agents is sharp and witty, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments. However, the show also delves into darker themes, such as grief and depression, which are handled with sensitivity and nuance.

Anthony Stewart Head shines as Stephen, bringing his trademark charm and wit to the role. Despite his character's flaws, Head makes Stephen a likable and sympathetic character, who the audience roots for throughout the series. Sharon Horgan is also excellent as Helen, bringing a no-nonsense attitude and a dry sense of humour to the role. Her chemistry with Stephen is a highlight of the show, and the two actors share some great scenes together.

The standout performance of the series, however, is Stephen Mangan as Alex. Mangan brings a vulnerability and humanity to the role, which makes his character both relatable and endearing. His comic timing is impeccable, and he manages to balance the comedy and drama of the series with ease.

Overall, Free Agents is a smart and entertaining sitcom, with a talented cast and sharp writing. While it only ran for one season, it remains a beloved cult classic, and is well worth a watch for fans of British comedy.
