Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares is a documentary-style reality series featuring celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay visiting eating establishments across England, Scotland, and Wales that need severe makeovers. The series ran on the United Kingdom's Channel 4. Chef Ramsay's skills are called upon each episode by a restaurant failing to draw in customers. Ramsay's job is to spend a week at the establishment, getting to know the staff and the food it serves. After a day's worth of monitoring, Ramsay presents his report to the restaurateurs on what is needed to increase business. The rest of each episode is dedicated to Ramsay's troubleshooting of the issues he discovered and his attempts at getting the sometimes hesitant and belligerent employees and owners to connect with him. While the majority of problems deal with the meals being served, Ramsay also addresses the restaurant's atmosphere and the attitudes of the staff. In some cases, Ramsay brings in others to assist him to remodel interiors and retrain the wait staff. Towards the end of each installment, viewers of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares are treated to a grand reopening of each venue and the changes the chef worked on throughout the week. The remaining minutes of the program are dedicated to Ramsay's follow-up several months later to see how the restaurant has progressed or, in some cases, continued to fail. Some episodes of the series were re-edited to show Ramsay visiting restaurants several years later. Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares premiered in April 2004 and ran for five series, ending in 2009. In 2007, a version of this series called Kitchen Nightmares premiered in the United States on the FOX television network. This version of Ramsay's Kitchen Nightmares remains on the air as of this writing.
