Ep 2. Arraignment Day

In the second episode of the third season of Good Trouble, titled Arraignment Day, the Adams-Foster family prepares for Callie’s arraignment as Mariana deals with the aftermath of the app scandal.

The episode opens with Callie and Jamie discussing their future together, with Jamie telling Callie he’ll “love her no matter what” as they cuddle in bed. Later, Callie’s anxiety is only heightened as she and the rest of the family prepare for her arraignment. While waiting for her turn in court, Callie has a heart-to-heart with her father, who admits to making mistakes when he was younger and encourages her to always be honest.

Meanwhile, Mariana is facing consequences of her own as the Coterie team blames her for the app scandal. After overhearing Raj complaining about her to the rest of the team, Mariana goes to his office to confront him. Raj tells Mariana that she has a “good heart,” but that she’s “not cut out for this” and that he’s going to have to leave the Coterie. Later, Callie tells Mariana that her arraignment went well, and Mariana admits that she’s been “feeling like a failure.”

As the episode progresses, both Callie and Mariana are faced with difficult choices. Callie receives a job offer from Kathleen Gale, the law firm that had previously offered her a position. Despite her initial hesitations about working for the firm that represents the opposite side of her previous cases, Callie decides to accept the job. Later, after attending Raj’s going away party at the Coterie, Mariana reconciles with him. The two agree that they can still be friends despite everything that’s happened.

Overall, Arraignment Day explores the themes of consequence and forgiveness. Both Callie and Mariana are forced to face the consequences of their actions, but ultimately learn valuable lessons as a result. The episode is filled with emotional moments, particularly during Callie’s arraignment and her heart-to-heart with her father. However, there are also comedic moments throughout the episode, namely during Raj’s going away party at the Coterie.

Fans of the show will be happy to see familiar faces return in this episode, including Jamie, Callie’s love interest, and Kathleen Gale, the lawyer from the first season who offers Callie a job. Arraignment Day also sets the stage for future storylines, particularly with Callie starting her new job at Kathleen Gale and Mariana figuring out her next steps at the Coterie.
