Ep 3. Power of Persuasion

After the cliffhanger at the end of the previous episode, Hostages season 1 episode 3 titled "Power of Persuasion" takes viewers back into the drama as the family of Dr. Ellen Sanders (Toni Collette) is still held captive by FBI Special Agent Duncan Carlisle (Dylan McDermott) and his team.

The episode begins with the hostages being held in separate rooms while they all think of their next steps. Meanwhile, Carlisle's boss puts more pressure on him to complete the task at hand and retrieve information from the doctor's husband, Brian. Duncan uses his persuading skills to try to get Brian to reveal information about the President's surgery and the woman who has threatened to shift it. He makes it very clear that he is not afraid to harm Brian or his family to get what he wants.

In the meantime, Ellen's daughter, Morgan, wants to escape the captivity of the family and tries to break free. Her brother Jake is against it, and the two siblings argue about the best course of action. Meanwhile, Ellen is working to save her patient's life. She uses her medical expertise to reattach the patient's finger and ultimately saves his life.

As the night advances, tension continues to mount between the hostages and kidnappers, especially when Carlisle's team comes to know that Ellen has saved the life of their rival patient. Things get even tenser when Carlisle finds out that the President's surgery may be canceled, and he is running on a strict time limit- so the pressure is on to get the information he needs.

The episode ends with Carlisle and Brian discussing the President's surgery plan, and Ellen discovering the motive behind the kidnappings. The characters' bond grows stronger in this episode, and the complex relationship between them is further explored.

Overall, "Power of Persuasion," is another intense episode of Hostages full of twists and turns that keep viewers on the edge of their seats. It is an excellent display of motivation and action as the drama unfolds and the characters are developed. The tension is present in this episode and continues into the next, as the story seems to be picking up pace and going into some interesting directions.
