Ted hosts a unique Thanksgiving dinner, called "Blitzgiving," where an old friend, "the Blitz," has a knack for bad luck and always misses out on the best parts of a party. Ted tells his friends the story of the Blitz and how unlucky his life has been, inadvertently jinxing them all and causing one of the worst nights of their lives. Meanwhile, Robin and Barney bond over their mutual hatred of Ted's pretentious college friend, PJ. Marshall and Lily attempt to continue their holiday traditions from afar, but encounter several mishaps along the way. In the end, the gang reflects on the blessings in their lives and come to the realization that sometimes the worst nights make the best stories.
