Robin and the rest of the gang are excited to attend a nightclub opening that's garnering buzz, but when they get there, they realize they're the only people in the club. The group decides to make the best of it, and they each take turns telling a story about a mystery or a historical figure.
First up is Barney, who tells the story of Lorenzo Von Matterhorn. He explains how he used the persona to seduce women and shows the gang his intricate plan to leave a lasting impression. Next, Marshall tells the story of the Battle of Little Bighorn from the perspective of the fictional soldier he dressed up as for Halloween. The story gets a bit out of hand as Marshall tries to make sense of the details he's added to it.
After Robin shares a story about her first job in news, Ted is up next, and he wants to tell a mystery story. He starts telling a story about a mystery woman he met in college, but goes off on tangents and rambles, causing the group to lose interest. Robin encourages him to cut right to the chase and finish the story, but Ted insists on telling it his way.
Finally, Lily tells the story of the origin of her kindergarten nickname, "Scooter". Though she insists there's no mystery to it, the gang is captivated by the story, and it becomes apparent that there was indeed a mystery.
As the night winds down, the group decides to do one last thing to make the best of the empty club - they'll all dance by themselves in the empty space. They're soon joined by a group of other people who had been at a different club, but were all let down by the hype and moved on to the one the gang was at. The group shares a dance with the new arrivals, feeling lucky to have ended up in the right place at the right time.
