Alan Partridge is a fictional character played by Steve Coogan, who is a failed television presenter and radio host. In season 1 episode 2 titled "Alan Attraction", Alan is in need of a date for an upcoming event and sets out to find a companion.

The episode begins with Alan conducting his radio show, which is called "Up With the Partridge". He is interrupted during the broadcast by two women who are advertising a local car dealership. Alan takes an immediate interest in one of the women and decides to invite her to an upcoming presentation evening. However, she declines his offer, stating that she is already in a relationship.

Determined to find a companion for the evening, Alan turns to his production assistant, Lynn, for help. Lynn suggests an acquaintance of hers called Valerie, who is a mature woman that works at a local petrol station. Alan agrees to meet her, and they go on a date to a local restaurant. The date does not go well, and Alan has very little in common with Valerie.

After the disastrous date, Alan meets up with his best friend, Michael, to discuss his misfortunes in love. Michael suggests that he explores his own sexuality and tells him about a club in Norwich called "Genesis" that is popular with the gay community. Alan initially dismisses the idea, but begins to consider it after noticing that his outfit unintentionally resembles gay fashion.

Alan decides to visit the club, hoping to find a suitable partner for the presentation evening. He is immediately intimidated by the clientele and is unsure how to approach anyone. He eventually meets a man called Glenn, who he believes is interested in him. However, Glenn later reveals he is actually interested in Lynn and suggests they all go back to his house for a drink.

The trio ends up watching a nature documentary, during which Glenn and Lynn become intimate. Alan is left alone in the room, feeling rejected and lonely. He eventually makes his way home, feeling disappointed that the night did not turn out as he expected.

Throughout the episode, Alan struggles to find a suitable partner and desperately seeks the approval and validation of others. The episode is a darkly comedic exploration of his emotional and social ineptitude. It showcases Coogan's incredible comedic talent and the show's unique brand of humor.
