In The Flesh is a post-apocalyptic drama about people who were once zombies and have now been cured. Set in a small town in northern England, the series explores the lives of these "PDS sufferers" as they struggle to reintegrate into society and deal with the prejudice and discrimination that they face.

The first episode of season 2 picks up six months after the end of season 1. Kieren Walker, our protagonist and former zombie, is still living in the small town of Roarton with his family. He's been trying to adjust to life as a regular person again, but it hasn't been easy. He's plagued by vivid hallucinations and nightmares, and he's plagued by guilt for the things he did when he was a zombie.

As the episode opens, Kieren is back at work at the local pub, where he's a trainee chef. He's distracted by memories of his time as a zombie, and he accidentally slices his hand open with a knife. As he's bleeding, he has a hallucination of a group of PDS sufferers attacking him. When he snaps out of it, he realizes that he's cut himself badly and needs medical attention.

At the hospital, Kieren meets a new doctor, Dr. Khatri, who specializes in treating PDS sufferers. Khatri is friendly and professional, but Kieren is skeptical. He's been let down by doctors before and he's not sure he trusts her.

Meanwhile, tensions in Roarton are rising. There's a pro-human "spiritualist" movement that's gaining traction, preaching anti-PDS sentiment and calling for a "Second Rising" – a new zombie outbreak. Kieren's sister Jem is heavily involved with the movement, and Kieren is worried about her. He's also worried about his own safety – he's been threatened by the spiritualists before and he's afraid they might try to hurt him.

In the midst of all this, Kieren's ex-boyfriend Simon turns up in Roarton. Simon was also a zombie, but he's not like the other PDS sufferers. He's "the first risen" – a special case who has a unique connection to the "Undead Prophet," the figurehead of the Second Rising movement. Simon is charismatic and charming, and he seems genuinely interested in reconnecting with Kieren. But Kieren is suspicious – he remembers how Simon was before he died, and he's not sure whether to trust him.

As the episode progresses, Kieren finds himself at the center of a series of escalating conflicts. He's caught between his family, who are trying to keep him safe, and his own desire for independence. He's caught between his old life as a zombie and his new life as a regular person. And he's caught between the pro-human and pro-PDS factions in Roarton, both of whom are vying for his allegiance.

Ultimately, the first episode of season 2 sets the stage for what promises to be an intense and emotionally charged season. The characters are facing difficult choices and impossible dilemmas, and the tension is only going to get worse as the Second Rising movement gains strength. In The Flesh is a show that's not afraid to tackle big, complex issues, and season 2 looks like it's going to deliver more of the same. Fans of the show won't want to miss this episode – or the rest of the season.
