Rogue is a gripping action-thriller series that aired on Directv from 2013 to 2017. The show is set in Oakland, California, and centers around the life of Grace Travis (played by Thandiwe Newton), an undercover detective who must navigate a complex web of crime and corruption to take down a notorious gang leader.

The show begins with Grace investigating the murder of one of her sons, who was killed in a drive-by shooting. In an effort to bring the killer to justice, she goes deep undercover and joins the Oakland crime syndicate run by the ruthless Jimmy Laszlo (played by Marton Csokas). However, as she becomes more entrenched in this dangerous world, she begins to question her ability to maintain her cover and the impact her work is having on her family.

Throughout the series, we see Grace facing countless challenges and intense situations as she tries to balance her work and personal life while taking down Laszlo's criminal empire. She forms alliances with some of the other members of the syndicate, including Max Laszlo (played by Josh Sasse), Jimmy's son, and his girlfriend Cathy Munroe (played by Sarah Jeffery). However, as the stakes get higher and the danger intensifies, Grace must remain vigilant and keep her wits about her if she is to succeed.

One of the standout performances in the series comes from Cole Hauser, who plays Ethan Kelly, an ex-military contractor who is hired by Grace's department to help with her undercover work. Ethan is a complex character who struggles with his own demons and has a complicated relationship with Grace. Over the course of the series, we see their relationship evolve as they work together to bring down Laszlo.

The show is not just about the action and suspense, however. It also has a strong focus on the personal lives of its characters and the impact that their work has on them. Grace's relationship with her family, particularly her husband Tom (played by Ian Hart) and her surviving son Sam (played by Cole Hauser's real-life son, Chase), is a central theme throughout the series. We also see the toll that the constant danger takes on Grace's mental and emotional health, and the way in which it affects those around her.

The performances in the show are all top-notch, with Thandiwe Newton delivering a standout performance as Grace. She is a complex and nuanced character who is both tough and vulnerable, and Newton brings a depth and realism to her portrayal that is truly impressive. The supporting cast is also excellent, with Marton Csokas delivering a chilling and menacing performance as the ruthless Laszlo.

Overall, Rogue is a tense and engaging series that will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end. It has a strong focus on character development, with complex and believable relationships that really draw you in. If you're a fan of action-thrillers with strong, nuanced female leads, then Rogue is definitely a show you should check out.
