It Takes a Worried Man is a British comedy series from the early 80s that follows the life of Philip Roath, a middle-aged man who quits his high-pressure job as an advertising executive to pursue his dream of writing novels. Played by Peter Tilbury, Philip is a bit of a worrier and tends to overthink things, causing him to constantly question his decision to leave his job and become a writer. His wife, Tracy (played by Diana Payan), is supportive but often exasperated by Philip's anxieties and worries.

Throughout the series, Philip navigates the ups and downs of the publishing world, from dealing with difficult editors to attending book signings and literary events. He also grapples with personal issues, such as his relationship with his teenage daughter and his own insecurities about his writing.

Despite the challenges he faces, Philip never loses his sense of humor, and the show strikes a good balance between comedy and drama. The writing is often witty and clever, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments, but it also doesn't shy away from more serious topics.

One of the show's strengths is its portrayal of the publishing industry, which feels realistic and authentic. From the cutthroat world of literary agents to the high-stakes world of book deals, It Takes a Worried Man provides a fascinating look at the inner workings of the publishing world.

The chemistry between Tilbury and Payan is also a highlight of the show. Their characters have a believable, loving relationship that is both comedic and heartwarming. Payan's Tracy is a strong, independent woman who is often the voice of reason, while Tilbury's Philip is a lovable, if slightly neurotic, protagonist.

One of the most interesting aspects of the series is its exploration of the creative process. As a writer himself, Tilbury brings a unique insight into the challenges of writing, from struggling to find inspiration to dealing with writer's block.

Overall, It Takes a Worried Man is an enjoyable and engaging comedy series that explores the challenges of pursuing one's dreams and the complexities of a creative life. With its clever writing, strong performances, and realistic portrayal of the publishing industry, it's definitely worth checking out.
