Ep 13. Fishtail

Kevin (Probably) Saves the World is a quirky comedy-drama series that focuses on the life of Kevin Finn (Jason Ritter), a self-absorbed man who is given a mission by a heavenly messenger named Yvette (Kimberly Hébert Gregory) to save the world by performing acts of kindness. Season 1 episode 13, titled "Fishtail", follows Kevin as he attempts to help an overwhelmed and stressed out mother, Lucy (Lesley Boone), who is struggling to balance her job and taking care of her son, Dylan (Jamison Jones).

As Dylan is nonverbal, Kevin struggles to communicate with him, but eventually finds a way to bond with him by playing with his toy cars. While spending time with Dylan, Kevin also learns about the challenges that families with special needs kids face, and gains a newfound appreciation for the strength and resilience of parents like Lucy.

Meanwhile, Amy is dealing with her own problems as she tries to come up with a new business plan for her struggling bakery. With Kevin distracted, she turns to her ex-boyfriend, Reece (Dustin Ybarra), for help. Reece encourages her to focus on what makes her baked goods special, and suggests that she enter a local baking contest to showcase her talents.

As the day progresses, Kevin becomes more and more overwhelmed by the responsibility of taking care of Dylan. He takes him to a playground to try and burn off some energy, but things go awry when Dylan makes a break for it and runs into the street. Luckily, Kevin is able to catch him in time and realizes that he needs to be more careful and attentive.

The episode culminates with Amy entering the baking contest and Kevin bringing Dylan to watch her compete. To everyone's surprise, Amy's entry wins first place, and she realizes that Reece was right in encouraging her to showcase her talents. Meanwhile, Kevin learns that Lucy has been fired from her job due to her absenteeism and feels responsible for not doing more to help her.

In the end, Kevin makes the decision to continue helping others and making a positive impact in the world, even if it means sacrificing his own needs and desires. "Fishtail" is a heartwarming episode that showcases the importance of empathy, kindness, and understanding in our interactions with others, particularly those who are struggling.
