- May 5, 2016
In season 1 episode 5 of Kuromukuro, titled "The Man Who Came from the Garden of Learning," the story takes a deeper dive into the storyline surrounding the mysterious Altar that has been discovered. Yukina and Kennosuke are still in recovery from their harrowing experience with the mysterious creature, but the discovery of the Altar and the implications surrounding it have kept them busy. The Altar seems to be a repository of knowledge, and with Yukina's understanding of the language, she is able to unlock some of the secrets contained within.
Meanwhile, the UN forces have received a new guest in the form of an expert on ancient cultures. Charles Masefield, a scholarly-looking man with a gentle demeanor, is brought in to offer his expertise on the Altar and what it might contain. Masefield seems overly enthusiastic about the discovery and is eager to learn as much as he can about the Altar and the culture that created it.
In his eagerness, Masefield quickly makes himself at home, much to the chagrin of the UN forces who are trying to maintain secrecy about the Altar. Bit by bit, he begins to uncover more about the technology and the secrets contained within, drawing Yukina and Kennosuke into his research.
The story takes a twist when it is revealed that Masefield is not who he seems, and his true intentions are far from honorable. It becomes clear that he has been sent to the UN forces by the Efidolg, the alien race that has been plaguing Earth for centuries. His real mission is to gain as much information about the Altar as possible and report back to his superiors.
With the help of Yukina and Kennosuke, the UN forces are able to stop Masefield and prevent the Efidolg from gaining any more valuable information about the Altar. This episode serves as a stark reminder that even seemingly benign visitors can have hidden and sinister motivations. As the stakes continue to rise, the team must remain vigilant and keep their guard up if they hope to keep their discoveries safe from the enemy.
