In season 4 episode 5 of the hit reality show Life Below Zero, viewers are taken on a journey through the rugged and unforgiving terrain of Alaska as we follow the daily struggles of a group of residents who have chosen to live off the land.

Titled "Sink or Swim", this episode focuses on the challenges faced by a handful of individuals as they struggle to navigate the harsh Alaskan landscape in search of food, shelter, and warmth. With winter quickly approaching and the threat of starvation and hypothermia looming over them, the residents must use all of their skills and knowledge to survive.

As the episode begins, we are introduced to Sue Aikens, who runs the Kavik River Camp which is situated in an isolated location deep in the Alaskan wilderness. With winter closing in, Sue is tasked with shutting down her camp for the season, which involves packing up all of her belongings and taking them back to civilization. However, with a limited number of flights available at this time of year, Sue must race against the clock to get everything done before the bad weather hits.

Next, we follow Glenn Villeneuve, who lives in a remote cabin in the Brooks Range. With the temperatures dropping rapidly, Glenn faces the daunting task of chopping wood and preparing his shelter for the cold winter months. However, when his axe breaks, Glenn is left with a difficult decision to make - should he risk traveling to the nearest town to buy a new one, or should he try to repair the one he has? With his survival hanging in the balance, Glenn must think quickly and act decisively.

Meanwhile, we witness the struggles of Andy Bassich, who operates a dog mushing business out of his cabin in the Yukon River Valley. With a team of more than 30 dogs and a passion for the outdoors, Andy spends his days training his sled dogs and preparing for the upcoming winter racing season. However, with an unexpected snowstorm hitting the region, Andy must scramble to get his animals fed and sheltered, all while battling the elements.

Finally, we meet Chip and Agnes Hailstone, who live in the tiny Inupiaq village of Noorvik with their five children. As the family prepares for the harsh winter ahead, Agnes must navigate the treacherous ice-covered river in search of fish to feed her family. With time running out and the ice becoming increasingly dangerous, Agnes must use all of her skills to make sure she and her children make it back to their warm cabin alive.
