Looney Tunes Season 1954 Episode 21 Yankee Doodle Bugs

  • August 28, 1954

Yankee Doodle Bugs is a classic Looney Tunes episode from 1954 that features the beloved character Bugs Bunny. The episode begins with Bugs strolling through the forest, whistling "Yankee Doodle." Suddenly, he comes across a cannon, and decides to have a bit of fun with it. He loads himself into the cannon, and before he knows it, he has been launched into the air and straight into the middle of a Revolutionary War battlefield.

As soon as Bugs lands, he takes notice of the fighting that is happening all around him. The Americans are battling against the British, and Bugs quickly finds himself in the middle of the action. Despite the chaos happening around him, Bugs is as cool as a cucumber, and he quickly takes matters into his own hands.

Bugs decides that he needs to help the American forces win the battle, and so he sets about sabotaging the British. He starts by stealing the hat off of a British soldier's head, and then proceeds to play a game of "keep away" with it. The British soldier chases Bugs around the battlefield, trying to get his hat back, but Bugs is too quick for him. The chase leads them straight into the camp of the American forces, and Bugs is able to pass the hat off to one of the American soldiers.

With the hat safely in the hands of the Americans, Bugs turns his attention to other forms of sabotage. He convinces a group of British soldiers to load a cannon, but instead of a cannonball, they accidentally put a lit firecracker into the barrel. When they fire the cannon, it explodes in their faces, leaving them singed and confused.

Bugs also gets his hands on a British drum, and he uses it to disrupt the rhythm of the British soldiers' marching. With their rhythm thrown off, the British soldiers start tripping all over each other, causing chaos and confusion.

However, Bugs' biggest plan for sabotage involves disguising himself as George Washington. He has his trusty carrot tie on hand, and he is able to use it as a makeshift wig to complete the look. When the British soldiers see "George Washington" walking through their lines, they assume that he is the real deal, and start hailing him as their new commander. Bugs uses this opportunity to give them some ridiculous commands, such as having them march backward, or playing leapfrog.

Despite Bugs' best efforts, the battle rages on, with neither side gaining a clear advantage. That all changes when a British soldier finds Bugs hiding in a barrel. The soldier chases Bugs through the battlefield, until Bugs is finally cornered. However, Bugs is not one to give up without a fight, and he is able to turn the tables on the soldier by painting a fake tunnel on a nearby rock. When the soldier runs into the tunnel, he crashes straight through the rock, leaving Bugs to escape unscathed.

With the battle still raging all around him, Bugs decides that it is time for him to make his exit. He once again loads himself into the cannon, and shoots himself out of the battlefield and back into the forest. As he walks away, still humming "Yankee Doodle," he can't help but laugh at the mayhem he has caused.

Yankee Doodle Bugs is a classic Looney Tunes episode that is full of the wit and humor that fans have come to love. Bugs Bunny is at his best in this episode, using his smarts and resourcefulness to cause chaos and confusion on the battlefield. Fans of the show will not be disappointed by this hilarious episode.
