Marriage, Not Dating is a South Korean television series that premiered in 2014. The show follows the story of a successful plastic surgeon named Gong Gi-tae, who has no interest in getting married despite the constant pressure from his family to settle down. The first episode of season 1, titled "How to Break Up in a Civil Way," introduces us to the main characters and sets the tone for the rest of the series.

The episode begins with Gi-tae's mother, who is determined to get her son married off, showing up at his house unannounced with a prospective bride in tow. But, Gi-tae is having none of it and devises a plan to get rid of her. He enlists the help of his best friend, Joo Jang-mi, to pretend to be his girlfriend and make it seem like he is already in a committed relationship.

Jang-mi, who is desperate to get married herself, agrees to help Gi-tae on the condition that he helps her get out of an arranged marriage that her parents have set up for her. Gi-tae sees an opportunity to get his mother off his back and agrees to help her out.

As they work together to fool Gi-tae's mother and Jang-mi's parents, they begin to develop feelings for each other. However, they both have their own issues and baggage that make getting into a real relationship complicated.

Gi-tae, who has been hurt in the past, is wary of commitment and believes that marriage is just a way to complicate one's life. Jang-mi, on the other hand, is desperate to get married to prove to herself and her family that she is capable of finding love and settling down.

As the episode progresses, we see Gi-tae and Jang-mi pretending to be a couple at Gi-tae's family gathering. They put on quite the show, convincing everyone that they are madly in love. However, things take a turn when Gi-tae's former flame shows up at the gathering, causing tensions to rise.

In the end, Gi-tae and Jang-mi's plan doesn't go as smoothly as they had hoped, but they manage to salvage the situation and avoid any major confrontations. Through it all, they begin to realize that they may have genuine feelings for each other, but are unsure of how to move forward.

The first episode of Marriage, Not Dating sets the stage for a fun and lighthearted romantic comedy that explores the complexities of relationships and marriage. With its charming characters, witty humor, and engaging storyline, it's no wonder that the show was a hit with audiences both in South Korea and around the world.
