Ep 3. Pain Killer

Allison DuBois is back with another puzzling case that involves her exceptional abilities of solving complex cases through her visions and dreams. In season 6 episode 3 named Pain Killer, Allison stumbles upon a crime that leaves her perplexed and disturbed.

In this episode, we see Allison tussling with her personal life issues, struggling to maintain her balance between the professional and the personal. She is still recovering from her conflicts with her daughters and husband, Joe. Amidst all these tensions, her nightmare of a mid-air plane crash wakes her up, unsettling her for the rest of the day.

She is asked by her defense attorney friend, Devalos, to work on the case of a young man, Kevin, who is accused of stabbing his father-in-law, Jacob. Things take an intense turn when Kevin claims to have no recollection of the horrific crime he is accused of. He even finds it bizarre and is convinced he could not commit such a gruesome crime.

Allison starts her investigation, and soon her dreams start to reveal crucial information that could lead to the case's resolution. Her dreams continuously show her small details that she couldn't have known otherwise. She sees Kevin's mother-in-law arguing with Jacob on the night of the murder, where he was trying to force her to take some pills. The same pills were found in Jacob's bloodstream when he was found dead.

As the investigation proceeds, Allison's dreams show her that Jacob was taking opioids and was addicted to them. She sees him getting the pills from his doctor, and his wife's struggle to get him to stop taking them. All these visions provoke Allison to dig deeper and consult with a few doctors, where she comes to know that the opioids Jacob was taking were not prescribed but bought illegally.

Allison's suspicions start to grow stronger, and she feels that the case is bigger than Kevin being the only perpetrator. She believes that Jacob could have been involved in something more significant and must have crossed the wrong path, leading to his death. Allison then finds a lead that unravels the mystery, and the truth that comes forward is nothing less than shocking.

The episode keeps the viewers on the edge of their seats, and Allison's curiosity keeps building with every revelation she makes. The complexity of the case makes it worth the watch, and the show's brilliant execution is commendable. Allison's character is as intriguing as ever, and Patricia Arquette's performance is outstanding. The episode ties up everything nicely and is a great addition to the season.
