In the fourth episode of season 17 of Midsomer Murders, titled "A Vintage Murder," DCI John Barnaby and Sergeant Charlie Nelson investigate the murder of a wine merchant. The victim, Martin Barrett, was found dead in a vat of wine at the Midsomer Vineyard during a tasting event.

As they delve into the investigation, Barnaby and Nelson discover that there were several people who had potential motives for killing Martin. These suspects include Martin's business partner, Oliver, who may have been jealous of his success and coveted his share of the business, as well as Martin's wife, Fiona, who was struggling with her husband's constant infidelities.

Another potential suspect is Greg Tutt, a former employee of Martin's who owns his own vineyard. Martin had recently refused to supply him with a particular wine, causing a rift between the two men. Additionally, there is a mysterious woman, Jenna Grant, who was seen arguing with Martin at a wine auction the night before he died.

As the investigation progresses, the detectives uncover a number of secrets within the wine industry, including illegal practices and adulterated wines. They discover that Martin was not the only victim in this case, and that his death is just the tip of the iceberg in a much larger scheme.

With a number of suspects and no shortage of motives, Barnaby and Nelson must work fast to solve this vintage murder before the killer can strike again.
