In season 4 of Moveable Feast with Fine Cooking, host Pete Evans explores the culinary delights of San Diego, California, in episode 6. Joining him on this culinary adventure are chefs Brian MaLarkey and Javier Plascencia.

The trio begins their journey in the Little Italy neighborhood, where they visit the Little Italy Mercato farmers market. Here, they are introduced to the diverse array of fresh produce available in San Diego, from heirloom tomatoes to exotic fruits. They pick up ingredients for their upcoming feast, including locally caught fish, artisanal cheese, and locally sourced vegetables.

Next, they head to the Chino Farm, a family-owned farm that has been producing organic fruits and vegetables for over 40 years. Here, they learn about the farm-to-table movement and the importance of using fresh, local ingredients in cooking. Brian and Javier use the fresh produce they collected at the farmers market to create a delicious farm-inspired dish.

For lunch, the trio visits Galaxy Taco, a restaurant owned by chef Trey Foshee. Here, they sample some of the best tacos in San Diego, filled with everything from shrimp to short rib to a vegetarian option of roasted vegetables. They also try some refreshing aguas frescas, a traditional Mexican beverage made with fruit and water.

After lunch, they head to the coast to meet with San Diego's only sea urchin diver, Harry Liquornik. Harry takes them out on his boat and shows them how to catch and clean sea urchins. Brian and Javier use the fresh sea urchins to make a ceviche with a uniquely San Diego twist.

Their next stop is at Javier's restaurant, Bracero Cocina de Raiz, where they prepare a dish that showcases the bold flavors of Baja California, a region just south of the California-Mexico border. They use fresh fish and shrimp to prepare a seafood tostada with avocado, cilantro, and jalapeño.

For their final stop, the trio visits a local brewery, Modern Times Beer. Here, they sample some of the unique beers brewed on site and try some creative beer cocktails. They also pair their beers with a delicious food pairing, and Pete learns about the brewing process and the importance of using local ingredients.

Their visit to local farms, markets, and restaurants highlights the importance of using fresh, local ingredients to create delicious, unique dishes.
