NTSF:SD:SUV is a satirical program which offers a comedic look at both the action and procedural investigation genres. The main characters are all part of an elite squad which handles a variety of different and often absurd cases. Each episode is only around ten minutes long, which often creates a unique method of storytelling. Quite often absurd details are added in as background elements which serve as an elaborate joke within a joke. For example, a robot might show up as a member of the team. No commentary on the absurdity of the situation is given, and the audience is left to put the comedic pieces together. All the while the main plot will continue forward without interruption.

The satirical nature of the show means that it can tackle almost any issue or plot line without it needing to make much sense. One episode the characters might be involved in stakeouts with the FDA, the next fighting terrorists on a plane, and the next working within a science fiction framework to unravel a science based mystery. No matter what element the cast focuses on, one can always expect over the top comedic action with a lot of guns, explosions, and running.

Adult Swim Picks Up New Shows; Patton Oswalt and Paul Scheer Among Creators

Adult Swim, the late-night block of alternative comedy and animation on Cartoon Network, announced its slate of new series pickups and renewed shows yesterday, and it's an impressive list with some familiar (and funny) names. Paul Scheer of "Human Giant" and "Piranha 3D" fame will be bringing "NTSF:SD:SUV" to the network. That stands for "National Terrorism Strike Force: San Diego: Sport Utility Vehicle," by the way.
