Poco's Udon World is a heartwarming anime series that follows the story of Souta Tawara, a young man who returns to his hometown after the death of his father to take over his family's udon restaurant. Along the way, he stumbles upon a mysterious little boy named Poco who has taken a liking to him. The show explores the themes of family, friendship, and coming to terms with loss.
Season 1 Episode 4 of Poco's Udon World is titled "Yashima". In this episode, Souta takes Poco to visit the Yashima temple on top of a mountain. Along the way, they run into an old acquaintance of Souta's, a woman named Kaoru who is also visiting the temple. The three of them climb up the steep mountain path together, enjoying the beautiful scenery and chatting.
Upon arriving at the temple, they discover that it is currently closed to visitors due to a ceremony taking place inside. They decide to wait outside and take in the view, where they meet an old monk who shares some wisdom with them.
As they wait, Souta and Kaoru catch up on old times and reminisce about their shared past. Poco, meanwhile, gets lost in his own world and gets separated from the group. Souta panics and goes searching for him, eventually finding him sitting quietly by a stream.
As they reunite, Souta opens up to Poco about his feelings of guilt over not spending enough time with his father before he passed away. Poco listens patiently and offers his own perspective on the situation, providing some comfort and solace to Souta.
Eventually, the ceremony at the temple comes to an end and they are able to go inside. They marvel at the beautiful shrine and Souta teaches Poco how to properly offer incense, a ritual associated with paying respects to the spirits of the dead.
As they leave the temple and head down the mountain, Souta reflects on the day's events and how spending time with Poco has helped him come to terms with his father's passing. He realizes that even though he may not have had much time with his father near the end of his life, he still has memories of their time together that he can cherish.
In typical Poco's Udon World fashion, this episode is full of heartwarming moments and poignant reflections on life and loss. It shows us that even in the darkest of moments, there is always light to be found in the connections we make with others.
