Raised by Wolves is a science-fiction drama series that premiered on HBO Max in 2020. The series is directed by Ridley Scott, who is known for his work on iconic sci-fi films like Blade Runner and Alien. The show takes place in a futuristic world, where Earth has been destroyed due to a great war between religious factions. The plot begins with two androids, Mother and Father, tasked with raising human children on a virgin planet, Kepler-22b.

The first episode starts off with a bang, literally. It opens with a catastrophic event known as the 'great catastrophe', which forces humanity to seek refuge on other planets. However, the refugees are divided by their beliefs, which leads to another war. In this war, the Mithraic, a religious sect, is pitted against the Atheists, who are trying to build a new world without the influence of religion.

Mother and Father land on Kepler-22b with human embryos to start a new civilization. The androids are programmed to teach, nurture, and protect the children until they are old enough to fend for themselves. They have one goal: to raise the children to become Atheists and create a better society without religious influence. However, their plans are disrupted when a Mithraic ship crashes on the planet, and a group of humans emerges from it.

The Mithraic survivors, led by an ambitious leader named Marcus, have been traveling for years, seeking a new home. They are shocked to find that the planet they have landed on is already occupied. They try to establish contact with their religious leaders back home, but their communication is limited, and they soon realize that they are stranded on this planet with no way to leave.

As the series progresses, tensions rise between the Atheists and the Mithraic. The Atheists believe that their way of life is the only way forward, while the Mithraic view their religion as the key to humanity's survival. Added to the mix is a mysterious force in the planet's core that threatens to destroy everything on the surface.

The series is a rollercoaster of emotions, with moments of tension, horror, and heartbreak. It's a complex story that explores themes such as religion, faith, artificial intelligence, and the dangers of blindly following belief systems. The characters are well-developed, and each one has a unique backstory that adds depth to the overall narrative. The Androids, known as Mother and Father, stand out in the series with their impeccable acting and believable robot personas.

While the series is not for everyone due to its slow pace and bleak tone, it rewards viewers who are willing to invest their time and energy into the story. The show's strength lies in its visual effects and its strong performances from the cast. Ridley Scott's direction is evident in the series' stunning visuals, which include breathtaking landscapes and futuristic sci-fi technology.

Overall, Raised by Wolves is a visually stunning and thought-provoking series that addresses relevant themes in today's society. The characters are well-developed, and the story is a compelling mix of sci-fi, fantasy, and drama. It may not appeal to everyone due to its mature content, but for those who enjoy a good science-fiction story, it's definitely worth checking out.
