Ep 17. Mongooses

After a recent break-in at the Chances' home, Burt is determined to protect his family by purchasing a massive security system that he can barely afford. Although Virginia doesn't agree with his decision, she allows him to go through with it, knowing that he feels responsible for their safety. Meanwhile, Jimmy starts a new job at Howdy's Market and is excited about the prospect of earning a steady income. However, his optimism is quickly dashed when he meets his new coworker, Frank, a grumpy old man who is set in his ways. Frank doesn't take kindly to Jimmy's suggestions for improving the store and belittles him at every opportunity.

Despite the tension at work, Jimmy and Sabrina are excited to attend a party hosted by Sabrina's coworker, who happens to be throwing a "Mongoose Fight Night." Although they initially think it's a joke, they soon discover that it's a real event and that the partygoers are placing bets on which mongoose will win in a fight. Jimmy is horrified by the idea of animal fighting and refuses to participate, but Sabrina becomes caught up in the excitement and convinces him to stay.

Meanwhile, Virginia's cousin Delilah comes to visit and causes a stir when she reveals that she's engaged to a man she's only known for a few weeks. Virginia is worried that Delilah is rushing into things and tries to intervene, but Delilah is determined to go through with the marriage.

As the night goes on, tensions rise at the party when one of the mongeese dies during a fight. Jimmy and Sabrina try to leave, but are confronted by the host, who demands that they pay him for the lost bet. In the chaos that ensues, Burt's security system malfunctions and the family is temporarily trapped inside their own home.

In the end, the Chances come up with a solution to satisfy the host and escape from the party unscathed. While at work the next day, Jimmy confronts Frank about his behavior and the two eventually come to an understanding. Delilah decides not to go through with the marriage, realizing that she was moving too quickly. And Burt and Virginia decide to return the security system, realizing that it was causing more harm than good.

Overall, "Mongooses" is a lighthearted yet thought-provoking episode that tackles issues of animal cruelty and family dynamics. It shows the Chances as a resilient and resourceful family who always find a way to get through tough situations together.
