Ep 5. Happy Halloween

It's Halloween time in the Chance household and everyone is excited. Sabrina, Jimmy's girlfriend, is especially thrilled as it's her favorite holiday. However, Jimmy is less than thrilled about having to dress up in a costume for Sabrina's party. Meanwhile, Virginia and Burt are planning their own Halloween shenanigans and hope to scare a few kids in the neighborhood.

The family's pumpkin carving competition is underway with each family member carving their own unique design. Jimmy, who struggles with creativity, is having a hard time coming up with an idea. Sabrina suggests they carve a pumpkin in the image of a character from their favorite TV show, which excites Jimmy. While they work on their pumpkin, Sabrina reveals her desire to get a tattoo, something that doesn't sit well with her conservative-minded boyfriend.

Virginia and Burt's Halloween plans involve a scarecrow and a remote-controlled car. They hope to scare kids by making the scarecrow come alive and chase them down the street. Things go awry when the remote control malfunctions and the car takes on a mind of its own, leading the scarecrow on a chaotic chase.

At Sabrina's party, Jimmy and Maw Maw feel out of place among the hip and trendy crowd. Jimmy is embarrassed by his costume and the fact that he has to carry around a plastic pumpkin to collect candy. Meanwhile, Sabrina's tattoo artist friend shows up, making Jimmy even more uncomfortable about Sabrina's tattoo idea.

Back at home, Virginia and Burt's scarecrow and car shenanigans have attracted the attention of the police. They are brought in for questioning, but manage to talk their way out of trouble by claiming the whole thing was just a harmless prank.

As the party winds down, Sabrina's tattoo artist friend convinces Jimmy to get a small tattoo of his own. Jimmy, who has always played it safe, decides to take the leap and get a tattoo of Sabrina's face on his rear end. At the same time, Virginia and Burt return home, still giddy about their near brush with the law.

Overall, the Halloween episode of Raising Hope is a hilarious and entertaining look at the holiday and the Chance family's unique way of celebrating it. From pumpkin carving to scarecrow pranks to, yes, even a tattoo, the Chance family proves that there's more than one way to have fun during Halloween.
