Ep 2. Starting Over

"Starting Over" is the second episode of the second season of the Australian drama series, Redfern Now. This episode follows the story of Grace, a 26-year-old Aboriginal woman who had been released from prison after serving a two-year sentence for drug offenses.

Grace, who is determined to turn her life around, finds it hard to adjust to life outside prison. She struggles with the transition from incarceration to freedom, and with the stigmatization that comes with having a criminal record. She also has to deal with the challenges of rebuilding relationships with her family, particularly her mother, who she had previously stolen from to support her drug habit.

Grace soon realizes that finding work with her record is not easy. She goes from one dead-end job to the other, and finds herself living on borrowed time when her friend and roommate, Roxy, becomes even more addicted to drugs than Grace was before her imprisonment.

Feeling trapped and hopeless, Grace turns to her parole officer, Pete, for help. Pete suggests she attend a rehab program to clean up her act and improve her chances of finding gainful employment. Despite initially resisting the idea, Grace eventually decides to attend the program, and it proves to be a turning point in her life.

As Grace goes through the program, she meets other participants who have also been through tough times. She finds solace in a new sense of community among them and is able to work through her addiction issues.

With newfound skills and a new perspective on life, Grace is able to seek forgiveness and rebuild her relationship with her mother while also impressing her employers at her new job with her newfound work ethic. She realizes she is capable of much more than she previously thought.

The episode deals with themes of resilience, second chances and the importance of community support in overcoming adversity. It is a powerful testament to the human spirit that enables people to start over and rebuild their lives even when things seem hopeless.
