In Reply 1988 season 1 episode 6, the focus is primarily on one of the main characters, Dong-ryong, and his crush on one of his classmates, Bo-ra. Dong-ryong believes that Bo-ra likes him back and even asks her to be his girlfriend at school. However, after school, Bo-ra tells Dong-ryong that she only likes him as a friend. This rejection leaves Dong-ryong feeling hurt and embarrassed, leading him to try and avoid Bo-ra and her friends for the rest of the episode.

Meanwhile, the other characters have their own storylines. Deok-sun's father tries to give her some financial advice, but she is more focused on her upcoming talent show performance. The other two male leads, Jung-hwan and Taek, have a bet revolving around catching a fly with chopsticks. Throughout the episode, they try to one-up each other, with Jung-hwan wearing a headband for "focus" and Taek practicing in secret.

The highlight of the episode, however, is the talent show. Deok-sun and her friends perform a dance routine to Madonna's "Material Girl," which draws a big reaction from the audience. Dong-ryong, feeling left out and rejected, tries to join in on the fun but ends up accidentally knocking over a speaker. This results in him being kicked out of the talent show and being forced to watch from outside.

As always, Reply 1988 delivers heartwarming moments throughout the episode. Dong-ryong's mother, who is usually overbearing and a bit of a nag, surprises him by supporting him in the talent show and even altering his shirt for him. Deok-sun's father continues to be a supportive figure, even though he struggles with his own financial issues. Taek's caretaker, who has become like a second mother to him, has her own emotional moment as she watches him practice for the chopstick bet.

Overall, this episode is a great continuation of the series. It showcases the different personalities of the characters and their relationships with each other, all while keeping it light and entertaining. While Dong-ryong's storyline takes center stage, each character is given their own subplot that adds to the overall charm of the show.
