Ep 1. Leaving Everything Behind

On the season 5 premiere of Return to Amish, entitled "Leaving Everything Behind," viewers catch up with the group of Amish and Mennonite individuals who have left their traditional communities in order to experience life outside of their strict religious upbringing. The episode begins with Mary and Chester, a couple who have been living in Florida for the past year, packing up their belongings and getting ready to start a new chapter in their lives. They have decided to move back to Pennsylvania near Mary's family, but they are nervous about how they will be received by the Amish community after living such a different lifestyle.

The rest of the episode focuses on the other members of the group and how they are acclimating to their new lives outside of the Amish community. Sabrina, who left the community in order to pursue a career in modeling, is struggling to find work and feels like she is being judged by her family for her choices. Jeremiah, who has been living in New York City for the past year, has decided to move back to Pennsylvania and is excited to reunite with his friends and family.

However, not everyone is thrilled to see Jeremiah return. Rebecca, who has always had feelings for Jeremiah, is conflicted about how to feel now that he's back in town. She still has a boyfriend, but the chemistry between her and Jeremiah is undeniable. Meanwhile, Kate, who left the Amish community to pursue an education, is struggling to balance her desire for a career with her Amish roots. She feels guilty about her decision to leave her family behind, but she knows that she wants a different life for herself.

Throughout the episode, we see the members of the group grappling with their choices and trying to find their place in the world. They attend a barbecue hosted by Mary's family, where they are reunited with many of their old friends and relatives from their Amish community. Although they enjoy catching up with everyone, they also feel like outsiders because of the lifestyle changes they have made.

As the episode comes to a close, viewers are left with a sense of uncertainty about what the future holds for these individuals.
