NFL Rush Zone: Guardians of the Core is an American animated series directed by Roshitash Rao. The premise of the show involves a 10-year-old African-American boy named Ish, which is short for Ishmael, who realizes he wields a power known as the Rush Zone. Every Sunday, Ish must make use of his Rush Zone powers to defend one of 32 shards, each a source of power representing one of the 32 teams which comprise the National Football League; all while avoiding the notice of his mother. Furthermore, each shard resides in a hidden area of its home team's stadium. Ish learns of his calling as a protector, the evil villain named Sudden Death, as well as the mysterious beings known as the "Rusherz" from a mysterious man who goes by the name of "OT." Sudden Death plans to use the Rusher-created shards to conquer the universe. Each of the Rusherz is a humanoid creature with some physical trait inspired by one of the 32 NFL teams, be it the team's mascot, franchise history, or simply that team's home city. The Rusher known as Bolt represents the San Diego Chargers, sporting blue and yellow lightning bolts, and serves as a secondary character and helper to Ish after Ish meets him during a Chargers home game. Another category of characters within the show is the variety of NFL coaches, commentators and even NFL players who make cameo appearances as themselves. San Diego's Norv Turner, New Orleans' Sean Payton, Pittsburgh's Mike Tomlin, New York's Michael Strahan and Eli Manning, Dallas' Jerry Jones, Denver's Shannon Sharpe and Brian Dawkins, Oakland's Marcus Allen, St. Louis' Steven Jackson, Arizona's Larry Fitzgerald and even John Madden have appeared at least once in the show.
