Frank wakes up in the park, outside of the city, to the sound of a nearby dog barking. He quickly realizes that he has been robbed of everything, including his pants and shoes. Meanwhile, Fiona receives a call from an insurance adjuster who informs her that her building zone has been reclassified. It's now considered a flood zone, which means she'll have to spend big bucks on flood insurance. She is frustrated and overwhelmed, unsure of how she's going to afford everything.

Kev and V are now working on their daycare and have successfully gotten their first child. The group needs more kids to come to their best daycare and so they hatch a plan to take on the competition. Lip discovers that The Fugees, a group of people in the neighborhood, is living in a building that he owns and throws a party to convince them to move to another area. This gets messy when he realizes just how much they need and how much he has failed to offer them. He quickly gets a lesson about gentrification and its effects on the neighborhood's residents.

Liam and Carl scramble to protect their beloved dog, Fred, after it bites someone and gets a new health inspector. Lip tells the boys that they need to prove that Fred is a good dog, but they worry that he is going to be taken away from them. In the meantime, Frank, who is still wandering around in the park, gets a new attitude when he's befriended by a dog named Buttons.

The episode is filled with questions of morality, what people will do when faced with them and the cost of trying to do what's right. It's an emotional story that is not afraid to tackle difficult issues such as gentrification, racism, poverty, and addiction. The Fugees are seen struggling with their daily lives because they've been displaced by big corporations who're developing the area. They found a place to call home but it was short-lived due to large sums of money demanded as part of a settlement agreement. In a seemingly careless moment and due to continuing pressure, Lip tried to evict them. On the other hand, Kev and V were seen going to great lengths to find ways to improve their daycare business, even if it meant cutting edges like underfeeding kids to save on costs.

Frank's storyline delivers a powerful message about the strength of friendship, even between the unlikeliest of pairs. Sammi's brother, Chuckie, knows Frank from a previous prison stay, and he helps him navigate his latest mess. They end up bonding over their shared struggles and experiences. Frank realizes that friendship and kindness are more valuable than money, and it’s a lesson that sticks with him as he tries to get back on track.

The show emphasizes that no matter how bad life gets, there is always hope and the possibility of redemption. It's never too late to make a change and sometimes all it takes is a single act of kindness. The Fugees' story comes to a bittersweet end as they move out of the building. It's difficult to watch them say goodbye to their home, but there's a sense of hope as they leave. They know that they will have to continue fighting for what they believe in, but they're not alone.

Overall, The Fugees is one of the most emotionally charged episodes of Shameless season 8. It's a raw and honest portrayal of the difficulties faced by people in lower-income communities and the sacrifices they’re forced to make for a better life. The episode challenges viewers to think about their own privilege and how they can use it to help others. It’s a must-watch for anyone who wants to understand the struggles of people living on the margins of society.
