Jack and Victor are best of friends living in the Craiglang area of Glasgow and they are always seeking out new adventures. In the fourth episode of season one, titled "Courtin," the duo is in pursuit of love. After watching a romantic movie, Jack becomes inspired to look for a female companion and Victor agrees to help him find one.
Their search for love takes them to the local bingo hall where they encounter two ladies: one who is more interested in the bingo than the boys, and the other who catches Jack's eye. However, Jack's confidence wanes when he spots a man already chatting her up. Feeling defeated, the boys leave the bingo hall disappointed.
Later that night, the duo heads out to a local dance hall where Jack spots the woman he saw at the bingo hall. But she's not alone - she's dancing with the same man that had caught her attention earlier. Victor, ever the supportive friend, encourages Jack to go for it and to not let the man get in his way. Jack's courage and persistence win over the woman, and they agree to go on a date. However, Jack's nerves get the best of him, causing the date to get off to a rocky start.
Meanwhile, Isa, Craiglang's local gossip, is up to her usual shenanigans. She's spreading rumors about a resident's death, which turn out to not be true. Isa's friends try to confront her about spreading lies, but she won't listen to reason.
Elsewhere in Craiglang, Winston, another one of the trio's friends, is struggling to keep up with the fast pace of modern life. He's having trouble with technology and is generally feeling left behind. After some encouragement from the others, Winston takes on the challenge of modernizing himself but soon realizes that he's happier the way he is.
The episode ends with Jack and his new love interest enjoying their second date and Isa getting her comeuppance when karma finally catches up to her.
Overall, "Courtin" is a light-hearted and humorous episode that explores the themes of love, friendship, and gossip. The dynamic between Jack and Victor is especially endearing, and their friendship is at the heart of the show. Audiences will find themselves rooting for Jack to find love and for Winston to find his place in the ever-changing world around him.
