In the second episode of Still Open All Hours season 3, titled Positive Emotions, viewers are taken back to the sleepy town of Balby where the staff of Arkwright's convenience store are up to their usual antics. This episode shines the spotlight on Eric, the randy son of lovable store owner Granville, as he tries to impress a new love interest.
As always, Granville is keeping busy with his attempts to woo the ever-elusive Mavis. This time, he's putting his faith in a book on positive thinking to help him land the object of his affections. However, his efforts are frequently hampered by Eric's well-intended but ultimately misguided actions.
Things start to get interesting when Eric comes in to work with a spring in his step and a newfound sense of confidence. He's been reading the same book on positive thinking as Granville, and it seems to be having a tremendous effect on him. Eric impresses everyone in the store with his newfound charm and can-do attitude, but it's not long before his enthusiasm starts to cause problems.
Granville is quick to notice when Eric begins making romantic overtures to Connie, a timid shop assistant who seems to spend more time looking at her shoes than engaging with customers. It's clear to everyone except Eric that Connie isn't interested in him, and his advances quickly become the talk of the store.
Meanwhile, Cyril and Beth are up to their usual shenanigans in the back of the store, with Cyril attempting to cook up a gourmet feast using nothing but tins of canned food. The pair are blissfully unaware of Eric's attempts to win over Connie, but their misadventures lead to a surprising twist later in the episode.
All in all, Still Open All Hours season 3 episode 2 offers another slice of warm-hearted comedy that will delight fans of the show. With a healthy dose of nostalgia and plenty of laughs, it's clear that the spirit of the beloved original series is alive and well. Whether you're a long-time fan or simply looking for something to put a smile on your face, Positive Emotions is sure to deliver.
