Ep 1. Forget It Dex, It's Stumptown

Dex Parios is introduced as a tough military veteran and a private investigator in Portland, Oregon's Stumptown neighborhood. Earning her living by solving cases, she is shown to have a no-nonsense attitude and a tendency to jump into danger without much forethought. The series' premiere episode, "Forget It Dex, It's Stumptown," establishes Dex's backstory, which includes her time in the military and a complicated personal history. The episode opens with Dex gambling in a casino and getting kicked out by a bouncer, quickly establishing her as a brash, impulsive character.

After leaving the casino, Dex runs into a former military colleague named Grey McConnell, who asks her for help. Dex agrees to help him and, while investigating the thefts, meets a woman named Liz who has been hired by Grey's ex-con ex-boyfriend to steal a car from Grey's bar. Dex and Liz get into a fight, during which Dex steals Liz's phone and discovers that she had taken pictures of the stolen car for her employer.

Meanwhile, Dex is also dealing with her own personal issues. She is shown still grieving for her deceased brother and is shown to have a tumultuous relationship with him prior to his death. She also struggles with her own mental health, shown struggling to sleep and continuously overthinking her past experiences.

Dex takes the pictures to the police, who agree to look for the car. However, they soon discover that the vehicle was used in a drive-by shooting hours earlier, and the suspected shooter is someone who Grey had previously served time with. Dex realizes that the situation is more dangerous than she thought and decides to take matters into her own hands.

She decides to follow Liz, who she believes may be connected to the shooting suspect. Dex discovers that Liz is working for the shooter, but is caught during her surveillance and taken hostage. The episode ends with Dex being held at gunpoint, creating an immediate cliffhanger for the next episode.

Overall, the premiere episode of Stumptown does a great job of introducing its main character and the world she inhabits, while also establishing a compelling storyline. It's clear from the outset that Dex is a character who will not shy away from danger, and the show is able to establish a sense of tension and danger throughout the episode. With a strong supporting cast and intriguing setup, Stumptown looks poised to be an engaging, action-packed series.
