Sword Gai: The Animation Season 1 Episode 2 Episode 02
The episode begins by introducing a new character named Marcus Lithos. He is a skilled swordsmith who creates weapons for the Shoshidai organization, which hunts down rogue sword wielders known as Shoshidai. Marcus is seen working on a sword while talking to his colleague Kyōsuke from the previous episode. Kyōsuke sees the sword and asks Marcus if he made it for Susugi, who is the main protagonist of the show.
Later, Susugi goes to a department store and meets a girl named Sayaka Ogata. They both admire the same wooden sword, which is on display in the store. Sayaka tells Susugi that she wants to buy the sword for her boyfriend who is a sword enthusiast. Susugi offers to buy the sword and gives it to Sayaka as a gift.
Meanwhile, Marcus creates a new sword for the Shoshidai organization. He tests the sword and finds that it is too heavy for him to wield properly. He asks Kyōsuke to help him test the sword, but Kyōsuke refuses, stating that he is a swordsmith, not a swordsman. Marcus then tries to test the sword himself but fails and injures himself in the process.
Back at the store, Sayaka's boyfriend Kō Hagunuma arrives and sees the wooden sword. He is disappointed as he was expecting a real sword. He then tells Sayaka that he has to go to work and leaves.
Later that day, Kō and Sayaka are attacked by a Shoshidai. Kō tries to defend himself with the wooden sword but fails. Susugi arrives and tries to fight the Shoshidai but his sword breaks in the process. They are both saved by the timely arrival of the Shoshidai organization who take down the rogue sword wielder.
After the fight, Kō is surprised to learn that the wooden sword he was given by Sayaka is actually a real sword. He is impressed by Susugi's skills and asks him to teach him how to use a sword. Susugi agrees to teach Kō and they both start training together.
